The vent mount is a bit too cumbersome to attach and detach from the vent as well as the actual GPS. However, when the GPS is on, the mount serves its purpose and quite compact compared to the bean bag mount.

I bought this with the Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550, and C580) at the same time. We use the friction dashboard mount more often since i can just grab the whole thing and put it in the armrest.
It is small and will keep the GPS out of the sun and more in arm's reach. Mounting is a breeze.

For my car (2010 Mazda 6) this thing fits perfectly.
It does not block my view of anything - the road or gauges in car.
The clips fit the vents perfectly and is very stable.
I can't stand thing that bounce around and this is very stable.
It may not work well in all vehicles. As stated you need horizontal vents that are wide enough for the clips (probably 3/8") But if there is a possibility it will fit I think it's well worth taking the chance. Especially in view of the price.

We use this vent mount in our 2008 Dodge Caravan & it works great with the Garmin Nuvi 205W. It has a swivel ball that allows both the driver and passenger to see the GPS. It does not block the air coming out of the vent nor is it too light to hold the unit. The GPS is easily removable without taking the mount off.
