This lens is sharp from Henry, even with large openings, working VR (image stabilization) is great, autofocus speed is more than acceptable and it is very lightweight and compact. The fact that it costs $ 250 and has effective VR is pretty amazing - no other company offers a lens with this feature too close to that price. As for picture quality, taken at the various Internet search photo sites like dpreview and Nikonians for test shots with this lens from real users. The results are impressive! My copy similar results. The previous reviewer must be a bad example. Of course, the lens slowly (like most consumer zoom lenses) that its widest aperture is less than a professional zoom or fixed focal length, so it's not a good choice for action photography in low light (like indoor sports without flash or outside of sport in twilight). But a fast telephoto zoom will cost at least three times as much and weighs a ton I give the lens 5 stars based on a combination of quality, value, and compactness / lightness. 159 of 161 people found this review helpful. VR really works, and the price can not be beat. K. Plourde I had version 55-200mm VR for about five months, sold the forge tally to recover my costs and bought the VR version as a substitute. VR version has not been very compact and light, and produced excellent images, but slightly larger than the VR version is far more usable I do not miss the second goal for everyone. VR works as advertised and allows me to take photos with 3 or more times the shutter speed lower than the non VR version. While I like the VR 18-200mm, for convenience, I will never be able to justify the price of $ 750, so my kit lens 18-55mm lens and it will probably cover my needs myself until my camera. I also seriously considered the 70-300mm VR, but could not accept the double price of only 50% wider and twice the length of the 55-200mm VR version would not be too difficult for me to take. I am very pleased with this 55-200mm VR lens and if you think about it, try it. You will not be disappointed. 202 of 207 people found the following review helpful. Better than I thought. By Ricardo my Nikon owner goes back over 30 years to the day when cameras were made of metal and wearing a pair of lenses with a tested your perseverance. Times have really changed. There is hardly a metal camera available and you can carry a bag full of equipment in one hand. Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor is the last light of the heavyweights on the camera industry. Plastic construction right down the lens mount. This thing looks and feels like the label must say the Fisher Price and not Nikon. However, appearances can be deceiving, as I soon discovered that my only reason to buy this goal was that I had to fill a void in my team until he saves enough for a 70-200mm f2.8. I had no intention of keeping the 55-200 VR 70-200, once arrived. After shooting with the 55-200 for a few months I have come to appreciate what it can do. It is limited to use in good light, and even VR can not change the laws of physics. In this case, even the current VR-II, but the original virtual reality that Nikon has developed many years ago. With the technology of sound and light enough, the 55-200 is capable of a very good performance. No, not quite as sharp as the 70-200 and contrasted. Neither will survive the time or use some solid blows professional expose a. When the 55-200 shines is its portability and performance above average. For travel or just walking around, it would be difficult to achieve this objective if used within its limits. I use mine in a D80 and I have no problem getting great 13x19 "prints As an added bonus, it works great with Nikon close-up CL3T and has a double duty as a macro zoom ..
